Q:WHEN DO YOU NEED A NEW BOARD?

March 23, 2011

Q & A

Answer: If it breaks, or cracks,  or gets submerged in a large body of water, then it’s probably time to look for a new one. Or, if you skid the nose or tail on the ground a lot, the ends will get really thin and sharp. This is called “razortail”.  Once a board has razortail, it has essentially lost it’s “pop”, and no pop means, YOU NEED A NEW BOARD!

Not to mention it becomes a hazard to your health. I’ve seen a board with razortail accidentally fly up and hit a young boy in the face. Instead of just giving him a bruise or a black eye even, which is what would of happened to him if the board was newer with normal “rounded” edges. It instead cut him from his cheek to about a millimeter from to his eye. All I could tell him at that point was “chicks like scares”.  Or try having a board with razortail fly into your leg and you will want a new board right then and there. It hurts!

Another reason is chips. Sometimes boards get chips in them. If the chip is on the top of the board, then it’s just cosmetics and will be more of an eye sore than anything. However, if the chip is on the bottom, it can affect the way the board “pops” against the ground.
